Supervision & Teaching

Supervision Experience

I am an award-winning research supervisor, having received RMIT’s Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Research Supervision (2025), Charles Sturt University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Research Supervision Excellence (2015), and Charles Sturt University, Islamic Students’ Association’s Outstanding Service Award for Advancing Scholarship and Research Supervision (2015). In 2021 I was Swinburne University of Technology’s nominee for the Australian Council of Graduate Research’s Excellence in Graduate Research Leadership Award.

I currently supervise several PhD candidates who are studying human information behaviour, user experience of technology, societal engagement and impact, and many other topics. My students typically study interdisciplinary topics and use a range of qualitative and mixed methods approaches, informed by various social research theories. My students also engage regularly with the community, as a pathway for their research to have an impact in society.

My current academic role is focused on research and research leadership, including PhD supervision, but I have taught information science courses, previously. I regularly give guest lectures and seminars at universities in Australia and worldwide, and give workshops for academics, research leaders, and researcher-practitioners across disciplines on various topics.
